Setting DP to play in background (OS 9)

Digital Performer has the ability to play in the background. For example you can have DP play while edit patches in Unisyn. Here's how to set it up with either FreeMIDI or OMS.

FreeMIDI only:

  • From Digital Performer's File menu choose "Preferences". Make sure the "Play in Background" box is checked.
  • From DP's Basics menu choose "Edit FreeMIDI Configuration" From FreeMIDI's File menu choose "FreeMIDI Preferences" and check the FreeMIDI Applications Only box. Save and quit FreeMIDI. You will now be able to have DP play while you switch to another program.

OMS 2.3.6 (or later) with Digital Performer 2.6 or later, & FreeMIDI 1.4 or later:

  • Open the FreeMIDI setup while no other applications are running. From FreeMIDI's File menu choose "FreeMIDI Preferences" and check the "Use OMS When Available" box. Save and quit FreeMIDI.
  • Open the OMS Setup program. From OMS's Edit menu choose "OMS MIDI Setup" and check the "Run MIDI In Background" box. Save and quit OMS. You will now be able to have DP play while you switch to another program.
