How do I edit channel names for my MOTU audio interface?

You can rename the inputs and outputs of your MOTU audio interface under OS X. For example, if Analog 7-8 on your 2408mk3 are a return from your outboard reverb unit, you can rename the inputs as "Ext Reverb Return L" and "Ext Reverb Return R"; the system will now see those names instead of "Analog 7" and "Analog 8".

To alter the names of your inputs and outputs, launch MOTU Audio Setup or MOTU PCI Audio Setup. Each console has a button labeled "Edit Channel Names". Hit this button and you will have a list of each of your FireWire and PCI interfaces, further divided into Inputs and Outputs. Double-click a name on the right and type a new name.

This screen is also accessible from the File menu of the FireWire and PCI CueMix Consoles.
