My Windows PC hangs on startup when my PCI-424 card is installed

When using a MOTU PCI-424 card on a Windows PC with the MOTU PCI Audio driver version 1.6.9.2 or earlier, you may experience a date-related issue on or after 10 June 2010 which causes the Windows startup process to hang.

To resolve this issue, use the following specific instructions to properly remove the older MOTU PCI Audio drivers from your computer and install an updated driver.

  1. Power off your computer, remove the MOTU PCI card from your PC, then power on your computer again.
  2. Run the Programs and Features (Windows 7 or Vista) or Add/Remove Program (Windows XP) control panel and uninstall the MOTU PCI Audio drivers.
  3. Download MOTU PCI Audio driver version 1.6.9.5 or later from MOTU.com.
  4. Unzip the archive, then run the installer, following all on-screen instructions.
  5. Turn off your computer, then install the PCI card in the slot farthest from your graphics card.
  6. Power on your computer. If you see any Found New Hardware Wizard dialogs after Windows has started, follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the drivers.
