Sample accurate sync takes place when two digital devices can locate and sync to exact sample locations and their clocks are resolved to the sample level. Digital Performer's counter can display bars and beats, frames, real-time, or samples. Sample accurate sync is currently the tightest form of synchronization possible.

Sample accurate location and transfers between your digital audio workstations and your computer are currently possible with MOTU's line of digital I/O interfaces, such as the 2408. For example, if you have Digital Performer, a 2408, and three ADAT decks, you could transfer up to 24 tracks of audio simultaneously into your computer, digitally. When you send these files back from the computer to the ADAT they will be placed on tape at the same sample location.
