When operating as an audio interface, MOTU AVB devices can be connected to a Mac with USB or Thunderbolt (if available). With firmware update 1.2.5 or later, and Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11) or later, a third option is available: AVB Ethernet.

Through Wi-Fi, you can control all the device settings and mixing features in your MOTU AVB interface(s) from your iPad, iPhone, tablet, smart phone and other Wi-Fi devices from anywhere nearby, such as a stage or control room. You can set up local Wi-Fi dedicated solely to your MOTU AVB interface(s), or you can set up wireless control through an existing Wi-Fi equipped Ethernet network in your home, studio, office or facility.

The routing grid lets you connect inputs to outputs. You can also split an input signal to multiple outputs — as many as you want. Sources include the physical inputs on the interface, audio channels coming from the computer, audio streams from the AVB network, and bus outputs from the internal mixer. Destinations include physical outputs on the interface, audio channels going to the computer, audio streams going to other devices on the network, and inputs to the internal mixer. In the Stage I/O preset, the routing grid maps audio inputs to the network, and incoming network streams are routed to the outputs. This allows two devices on the network to stream audio to each other. |
Expander preset (6 of 6)
In the Expander preset, the routing grid maps analog inputs to ADAT outputs; conversely ADAT inputs are mapped to analog outputs. This allows the interface to extend the analog I/O of another optical-equipped device, such as another audio interface or mixer. |

In presets that involve the on-board mixer, you'll gain insight into how audio is routed to and from the mixer, and how to use the mixer for no-latency monitoring and effects processing.
MOTU periodically posts firmware updates for your MOTU AVB interface. Updates may include bug fixes, enhancements, and new features. Updates are posted on MOTU's servers. If your computer, iPad or iPhone has access to the internet, the MOTU AVB Control app notifies you as soon as an update is made available. Otherwise, you can check back here periodically for the latest firmware update.
MOTU AVB audio interfaces can be remotely controlled from a hardware controller or software interface using either OSC or HTTP. Each protocol provides an extensive set of commands that allow control over almost every aspect of the hardware.
