Q: Why are the FreeMIDI options in Mosaic greyed out?
A: If the FreeMIDI options in the file menu of Mosaic are greyed out, it is because Virtual Memory is on. Turn off Virtual memory off in the Memory Control Panel, and you will be able to use the MIDI features of Mosaic.

Q: Why can't I engage record on the ADAT I have connected to my Digital Timepiece with MMC commands from Performer?
A: In order for the record message to get through to the ADAT, you must record arm a virtual track on the DTP in the MIDI Machine window of Performer. To create a track for the DTP in this window, click on the DTP, pull down the mini-menu for the MIDI Machine window, and select set number of tracks. Set the DTP to have 1 track. When you want to punch in with the Record button in DP, make sure that the virtual track for the DTP is also record armed.

Q: How do I reset my MIDI Timepiece AV?
A: To reset the MIDI Timepiece AV hold in the Panic button as you turn on the power.

Q: How do I add the patchlists for the Roland Expansion Boards to my
JV-1080 patchlist?

A: The current version of FreeMIDI contains the patchlists for most of the Roland Expansion boards. You will need to copy and paste the appropriate lists into the default list for the JV-1080. There is an instruction file located in the same folder as the Expansion board lists. To find this folder once you have installed the current FreeMIDI, follow this path: Open the Hard-drive, open the System folder, open the FreeMIDI folder, open the Default names folder, and open the Roland folder. Inside this Roland folder you will find the Expansion board folder and the instructions for using these lists.

Q: Why do I get an error message that mentions "Error while setting up authorized software, result code -2817" when I Try to launch Performer 6?
A: This error message refers to the absence of a shared library in the extensions folder. This could be caused by using a system software earlier than 7.5.3. If you are using 7.5.3 or later, this error message probably only means that the SOMobjects extension is not active. Try restarting the Mac with only these extensions active: FreeMIDI System Extension, FreeMIDI Power Plug, Shared Library Manager, Shared Library Manager PPC, SOMobjects, Sound Manager, and the MOTU folder.

Q: Why is there a delay on my audio input in Digital Performer?
A: When using the MOTU Audio System and monitoring through effects, a delay will be introduced. To avoid this you will have to use direct hardare playthrough, and monitor the input with no effects. This setting is accessed through the MOTU Audio System options selection under the Basics menu. Go to the Input Monitoring Mode, and set it to Direct Hardware Playthrough.

Q: Why do I get the error message "No reply from instrument" when I try to use Unisyn with my MIDI device?
A: Generally the "No Reply" error refers to an incorrectly set device ID, or signal flow issue. Make sure that the device ID in FreeMIDI matches the sysex ID of the instrument. If it does, the sysex message may not be making it to the instrument. If the instrument has a MIDI receive indicator, does it indicate that a message is received when you select a Get Patch from Unisyn?

Q: Can I sync Performer and Rebirth using the OMS Emulator in FreeMIDI?
A: Yes. To do so follow these instructions:
1) You will need to have FreeMIDI 1.35 installed. In the FreeMIDI preferences, select Emulate OMS, Inter-Application MIDI and FreeMIDI Applications Only.
2) Open FreeMIDI, and while FreeMIDI is still open, launch Rebirth, then Digital Performer.
3) Open the Transmit Sync window from the Basics menu and select Rebirth from the Applications option in the MIDI beat clock menu.
4) Quit Rebirth, and re-launch it.
5) Select Digital Performer (or Performer) for the sync input
setting in the ReBirth Preferences. These are located under the edit
menu.
6) Set ReBirth to External MIDI clock.
Pressing play in DP will now start ReBirth playing in the background.

Q: Can I have OMS and FreeMIDI extensions active at the same time?
A: Yes. You will need to make sure that the preferences are setup correctly to allow this. In FreeMIDI, set the preferences under the file menu to "Allow other Applications". In OMS, make sure the "Run MIDI in background" option is off. This is located in the OMS MIDI setup option under the edit menu. Now each application will release control of the serial ports when you switch from one to the other.

Q: All of the output lights on my MIDI interface are glowing. Is this a
problem?
A: Yes. This would be evidence of a clock loop. A clock loop can cause random patch changes, stuck notes, missing notes, etc. There are two ways to correct this. You could use the filtering capabilities of the MIDI Timepiece, or MIDI Express to filter these messages. MIDI clock is a real-time message, so you would want to set the filters to filter real-time messages on the inputs of the interface. You could also find the parameter that turns the clock on or off, and turn it off on the MIDI device that is transmitting the clock.
