Using the MicroBook II's Phones output with GarageBand (OSX 10.7 and later)

By default, GarageBand will playback your music through the first audio output stream on the MicroBook II – the Main Output. If you would like to hear your music through the Phones output as well, you can use Apple's "Multi-Output Device" feature to tell GarageBand to use all outputs on the interface.

Here's how!

1. Launch Audio MIDI Setup (from Applications > Utilities.)

2. In the Audio Devices window, click on the "+' icon in the lower left corner. Choose "Create Multi-Output Device" to add a new Multi-Output Device.

3. In the Audio Devices window, select the Multi-Output Device in the left-hand column. To the right, you will see a list of available CoreAudio devices. Select only the MicroBook II from this list.

4. Open GarageBand. In GarageBand's Preferences, click on "Audio/MIDI" and choose the Multi-Output Device as your Audio Output device.

When you are done, you may close the Preferences window and start playing back your GarageBand recordings. The playback will be sent to all outputs on the MicroBook II, including the Phones output.
