Launching Digital Performer, Performer, or FreeStyle produces a No FreeMIDI configuration error

If you launch Performer or Digital Performer and get the error message: "There is no current FreeMIDI Configuration. Please run the FreeMIDI Setup Program to create one."

First verify you have a FreeMIDI configuration created by launching the FreeMIDi setup application.

This is usually the result of problems with catalog B-tree errors. Run a disk utility to fix any problems with the drive and rebuild the desktop file (restart with the option and command keys).

This usually corrupts the preferences for FreeMIDI so in the system folder FreeMIDI folder trash the FreeMIDI preferences and the Digital Performer preferences. Then, launch FreeMIDI from the configuration file, not the FreeMIDI setup application (as it will ask you to recreate a configuration). With FreeMIDI open, launch DP. This should reconnect the two.
