Getting started with AudioDesk and your new Samson mic

Getting started with AudioDesk and your new Samson mic

Follow these instructions to download, install, set up and start recording with AudioDesk and your new Samson microphone.

Downloading and installing

Click the link below that applies to you to start your download, or copy and paste the link text into your favorite web browser:

Mac version

Windows version

1. Launch the downloaded Mac installer or Windows setup.exe by clicking on the file.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Once the installation is successful, close the installer, and connect your Samson microphone to a USB port on your computer.

4. Launch AudioDesk.  If you’re on a Mac, look for it in your Applications folder.  If you’re on Windows, go to the Start menu > MOTU (folder) > choose AudioDesk 5 (for 64bit or 32 bit operation).

5. Once you’re in the welcome window, choose Setup menu > Configure Audio System > Configure Hardware Driver.


6. For Mac, select your Samson Mic in the list and click OK. For Windows, select "Windows Audio" in the list and make sure your Samson microphone is selected as a default playback and recording device in the Windows Sound control panel.

7.  Click the “New” button to create a new project. 

8.  Choose a name and location for where this project will be stored on your computer.

Recording your first track

Once you’re in the main Edit Window of AudioDesk, you are now ready to record!

To record your first track:

1. Click Project > Add Track > Stereo Audio Track.


2. Click the “+” and “-“ buttons in the bottom right-hand corner to expand the size of your track.

3. If it’s not already chosen, you’ll need to choose Samson Mic as your Input source.  Simply click on the “I” button on your track, go to “New Stereo Bundle”, and select Samson Mic 1-2 at the top.


4. Click the record-enable button in the track settings (near the track name).

5. Click the record button in the main transport bar at the top of the screen.

6. Record your track.

7. Click stop in the main transport bar when finished.

Congratulations!
