FAQ

MachFive 3 FAQ

Is there a MAS version of MachFive 3?

Not at this time. Digital Performer users can use the MachFive Audio Unit (component) plug-in, which provides 100% of MachFive's current plug-in functionality.

Do I need an iLok to run machFive 3?

Yes.

Can I use my old iLok with MachFive 3?

Yes. You can use any iLok, old or new.

Can I use an iLok I have for another product for MachFive 3?

Yes, iLoks have the ability to hold multiple licenses for multiple products. How many depends on the ilok itself. Some can hold more than others.

How do I authorize MachFive 3?

Redeem the 30-digit license code printed on the glossy full-color card included with your MachFive 3 package at www.ilok.com. Doing so deposits your MachFive 3 authorization into your iLok.com account. You can then download it into your ilok.

Does MachFive 3 support 64-bit operation?

Yes, with a supporting computer system, OS, and host software (if running as a plug-in). See the system requirements.

Can I use my Ethno 2, BPM, and/or Electric Keys UFS soundbanks with MachFive 3?

Yes, absolutely. You can use them just like MachFive soundbanks: in the MachFive 3 multi-column browser, locate them on your hard drive and then simply double-click to open them. PLEASE NOTE: You must have an Ethno 2, BPM, or Electric Keys authorization on your iLok.

Does MachFive 3 load MachFive 2 performances?

Yes. Use the 'Load Multi" command in MachFive 3's File menu.

Can I use my MSI.dat (Symphonic Instrument) soundbank with MachFive 3?

With the 32-bit version of MachFive 3, yes. Run MachFive 3 in 32-bit mode (using the check box in the Get Info window on the Mac). IMPORTANT: you must have Symphonic Instrument installed on the computer. In other words, you can't just copy the MSI.dat file to your hard drive. You need to actually have MSI installed, iLok-authorized, and running successfully. And the MSI.dat (or an alias) needs to be properly placed in the Application Support/MOTU/ folder as required by the MSI software.

With the 64-bit version of MachFive 3, use of the MSI.dat file is not supported. We are aware of this issue and hope to have a solution soon. In the meantime, if you are running on a Mac, you can force MachFive 3 to run in 32-bit mode using the Get Info check box.

Can I use my Ethno.dat (Ethno version 1) soundbank with machFive 3?

With the 32-bit version of MachFive 3, yes. Run MachFive 3 in 32-bit mode (using the check box in the Get Info window on the Mac). IMPORTANT: you must have Ethno Instrument installed on the computer. In other words, you can't just copy the Ethno.dat file to your hard drive. You need to actually have Ethno 1 installed, iLok-authorized, and running successfully. And the Ethno.dat (or an alias) needs to be properly placed in the Application Support/MOTU/ folder as required by the Ethno software.

With the 64-bit version of MachFive 3, use of the Ethno.dat file is not supported. Your best bet is to upgrade to Ethno Version 2, which works fine with MachFive 3 running in 64-bit mode.

Can I use MachFive 2 or MachFive 1 sounds with MachFive 3?

Yes. You can load Version 1 and 2 presets, multis, and UFS soundbank presets into MachFive 3.

Are the MachFive 2 sounds (or version 1 sounds) included in the MachFive 3 libraries?

No, except for a small portion of the Universal Loops & Instruments soundbank. So if you have version 2 or version 1 soundbanks, you should keep them available and use them as a compliment to the new Version 3 soundbanks.

How do I use the Telematic (or other scripted instrument)? I can't find any documentation.

Do this: click the Info tab to display the Telematic graphic and settings. Now click the "i" button in the lower right-hand corner, just below the "Acoustic Samples" logo. You should now see a screenful of instructions.

How do I read third-party sampler disc formats (e.g. Akai S1000/3000, Roland S7xx Series, Kurzweil K2xxx, Emu EIII / EIV and Ensoniq ASR) in Mach Five 3?

At the moment, insert sampler disc into optical drive prior to launching Mach Five 3. NOTE: in the next version (3.0.2) you will be able to right-click on "Devices" in the browser list to access a "Refresh" pop-up. Doing so will cause any inserted sampler discs to appear in the Devices list. Unfortunately, Mac OS X does not allow MachFive to see these discs automatically.

MachFive 3 can't load my EXS24 sounds. Why?

EXS24 presets store the path to the samples they point to. Often, the preset does not have the correct sample path stored in it. Therefore, MachFive 3 cannot open it. To fix the preset, load it into EXS24 to fix the path and resave it with the correct path.
